This extraordinary speaker delivers a slightly forward yet soulful sound with deep bass extension from a stand-mount speaker that will surprise you. Good all around speakers for mainstream listener. We love them with vocal centered music and prog rock and other music that needs a speaker that can offer a sense of scale to it's production.
They pair well with neutral solid state and mainstream tube amplification, i.e. KT88 - KT150. Brilliant with a Musical Fidelity or Chord Integrated Amp.
Cabinet - The Bambusa cabinet is made from "solid bamboo." You are probably wondering why "solid bamboo" is in quotes. This is because the bamboo panels we use are laminated, but are slats of bamboo that are laminated together into a solid wood plank.
These planks are outstanding for production of a speaker cabinet. A cabinet material for a speaker needs a few properties to perform well. Strength, rigidity, humidity resistance and a uniform density are most important. Bamboo offers all of these and is sustainable to boot.
- 29% stronger than red oak
- Lamination and machining ensures consistent density
- Strength is maximised with the panels laminated on their side
- Bamboo is a grass rather than a wood making it naturally water resistant - expands and contract as little as plywood
Why is bamboo sustainable: The fastest growing "tree" on earth, bamboo is actually a grass with wood characteristics. Grows in shoots up to 90 feet tall, but just a few inches in diameter. Harvesting bamboo does not require replanting. Regeneration occurs from the existing root structure which helps prevent soil erosion. There is no need to use pesticides or fertilizers and bamboo produces 35% more oxygen than an equivalent stand of hardwood.
Drivers: For the Bambusa MG we have opted for a SEAS Excel tweeter and SEAS Prestige Mid-Bass Driver for several reasons. The Excel tweeter has an optimally shaped soft dome made from SONOMEX surround with a unique magnet system. It is higher mass and extremely well damped to ensure stray cabinet vibrations have a minimal impact on the sound profile.
The Prestige mid-woofer features a stiff yet light aluminum cone and low loss rubber surround. These cones feature extremely high stiffness along with good internal damping.
These drivers combine together for an extremely natural yet slightly soulful sound with deep bass, excellent frequency extension and a wide and engaging soundstage.
Crossover: Like our other products, we work with a master designer who tailored our crossovers to the explicit cabinets and drivers. Our motivation is always to deliver the most natural and revealing sound possible. This extends to our choice of parts using Clarity Cap PX Capacitors, Goertz Copper Foil and Solen Perfect Lay Inductors in different parts of our crossover to optimize performance.
Kimber Kable and WBT: We use only Kimber Kable for our internal point to point wiring and WBT binding posts. This ensures that the signal you deliver to these speakers will reach the driver and crossovers in the purest possible way.
